Product Range/Brands
‘Frozen at Sea’ prawns, and a limited range of other products including squid.
The scientific name for the prawns that we fish and supply is Nephrops norvegicus . It is also known as the Norway lobster, langoustine, scampi or perhaps more famously as the Dublin Bay prawn.
It got the latter name because it was in Dublin that they were first regularly landed. They were regarded as an incentive for the crew when caught as unsolicited bycatch by trawlers fishing the northern edge of the Irish Sea. The crew would sell the bite-sized lobsters to street vendors to make extra cash. Since the Dublin Bay prawn wasn’t strictly ‘above board’, they were off-loaded at sea, in Dublin Bay to be precise, before the ship landed its official catch in the harbour.
It is a slim, orange-pink lobster that can grow up to 45 cm long, though it is often smaller. It has a segmented abdomen with a broad, fan-like tail and long, clawed front legs. They are found at depths between 20 and 600 meters off the coast of Ireland.
They can be consumed in numerous ways by all regular methods of cooking or as a sushi or sashimi dish.
Brands sold to export market
Products are supplied branded/unbranded into export wholesale markets or directly to secondary processors who then pack under their own brand.

Main channel supplied
An estimated 95% of output is exported. We primarily export to Europe (Italy, Spain and UK) and China. Key channels supplied include distributers and wholesalers who sell to secondary distributers or directly to restaurants.
Grading and Packaging
They come in a number of different sizes and are graded and packed accordingly. The grades are based on size and the number supplied per kilo. e.g. 31/40’s will typically have between 31 to 40 prawns per kg while 11/15’s will have between 11 to 15 per kg as they are bigger.
